The monitoring plan: what sponsors and CROs are looking for and why
Interpret a monitoring plan to understand how sponsors and CROs determine which data points, documents, and processes receive priority attention during monitoring visits, and how this knowledge helps the CRC prepare more effectively.
The document nobody reads
There is a document in the investigator site file that most coordinators have never opened. It arrived during the site initiation visit, filed behind a tab labeled "Monitoring" or "Sponsor Oversight," and it has sat there undisturbed through every subsequent monitoring visit. It is the monitoring plan. And it is, in my experience, one of the most underused tools available to a coordinator who wants to be genuinely prepared--not just busy--before a monitoring visit.
