Introduction to the Trial Master File
Survey the Trial Master File concept, its relationship to essential documents, and the distinction between sponsor TMF and investigator site files.
The filing cabinet question
Marcus Thompson had been a Clinical Research Coordinator for nearly two years when a sponsor auditor asked him a question that stopped him cold.
"Can you show me your Trial Master File?"
Marcus hesitated. He knew where the regulatory binder was. He knew where he filed the signed consent forms, the lab certifications, the monitoring visit letters. He knew the investigator kept a separate folder with FDA correspondence. The pharmacy had its own files for drug accountability. But a Trial Master File? He was not certain he had one, or if he did, whether it was complete.
